This part of the country is probably most famous as home of the Badminton horse trials. Badminton House is an impressive Palladian house set in 15,000 acres and is owned by the Duke of Beaufort. Each April the great and the good of the equestrian world meet here for the famous horse trials.

The place has also attained notoriety as it is home to the kennels of the Beaufort Hunt and this is very definitely fox hunting territory.

The nation is quite divided on this issue; many, many people think it is indefensible, barbaric and quite out dated as a method of fox deterrent yet a recent pro fox hunting “Countryside” march in London attracted more protestors than any other, ever. Quite bizarre.
