St Ives has a rich heritage and has been in the history books since the 5th century; it has been home to many a famous face such as Henry Moore and Virginia Woolfe. In recent times it has made a smooth transition from fishing village to holiday resort.
The ever-popular destination of St Ives nestles on the northern coast of Cornwall. The mild climate brought about by the presence of the Gulf Stream means it is a popular holiday haven for all ages. The pleasant weather means tropical flowers grow in abundance and as such St Ives has won the 'Britain in Bloom' prize several years in a row.
Since the 1900's St Ives has a history of attracting creatives and a vibrant artists colony began to develop at this time. Names such as Barbara Hepworth, Ben Nicholson and the potter Bernard Leach came to live and work in the inspiring town followed in the 1960's by Terry Frost and Patrick Heron. Many examples of their work are displayed in the St Ives Tate, situated on the popular Porthmeor beach, which is a must see for any art enthusiast.
