Truro is Cornwall's cathedral city and administrative hub. It started out as a maritime centre but was overtaken by Falmouth and so joined the mining boom of the area. You will find Georgian houses that reflect the prosperity of the 1800s in the lovely Lemon Street and Walsingham Place.
Truro Cathedral was originally erected in the late 1800s but the cathedral we know today wasn't finished until 1903. It is a dramatic building in the Gothic Revival style that is the work of architect John Loughborough.
Truro is also home to the Royal Cornwall Museum, which has a hugely diverse collection. Exhibitions include: local art, ceramics, history, archaeology and a fine art collection with work by John Constable, Caravaggio and William Blake.
