To say the villages of East and West Portholland are tiny wouldn't be an understatement. The permanent population totals just forty. The villages have recently been declared National Heritage Assets.
There has been an active effort by the majority land and property owners to preserve the villages and keep out the fast paced outside world. They are ideally placed between St Austell and Truro and their particular attractions. They are also well placed to receive the maximum amount of sunshine, creating a balmy climate well into the autumn.
The village has two coves that are joined by a sandy beach at low tide. Portholland has remained largely unchanged in the last 100years, so tourists are attracted to the place to get a taste of what real Cornwall was like.
