Fowey

Fowey has got to be the quintessential Cornish port. It lies at the mouth of the River Fowey and has had a long and prosperous history of china clay shipment and a generally busy harbour. The bay still buzzes with yacht and trawlers giving the town a decidedly animated quality.

Attractions include the central church of St Fimbarrus; the Literary Centre has a Daphne du Maurier exhibition, Place House, a fifteenth/ sixteenth century house with a Victorian/ gothic tower and the one time Roundhead headquarters, the Ship Inn.

Following the Esplanade gives access to a selection of great coastal walks, the lovely beach at Readymoney Cove and the remains of Henry VIII's St Catherine's Castle.
