Both Exmouth and Sidmouth boast an impressive number of genteel Georgian properties that sprang up in the early 1700s when sea-bathing became fashionable. Budleigh Salterton is peppered with white-washed cottages with thatched roofs and was popular with the likes of P.G. Wodehouse and Noel Coward in the early 1900s.
