Canteen on Clifton Street is a new experience for lovers of vegetarian and regular cuisine. The canteen aims to bring you the tastiest flavours from around the world, using only the freshest ingredients to create dishes that are not only unique but also truly delicious.

Their aim is to serve high quality food at value for money prices. All the cooked meals can be adjusted to meet your tastes, whether you like your food mild or hot, with onions and garlic or without. Most dishes the canteen prepares are suitable for vegans and they can cater for diabetics and those with special dietary requirements.

Further Information: What we are hoping to achieve at Canteen is a relaxed environment where veggies, vegans and omnivores can come together and eat the best food. To that end we will ensure that there is always one choice on our menu to suit anyone. As it happens, this gives the omnivores the advantage, because they can eat everything. So the food we produce for meat-eaters will be long braises of cheaper cuts of meat, and we will scour world cuisines for the best slow-braised dishes; tagines, daubes, hot-pots. The main focus of the menu will be vegetarian and vegan. That is not to say that it will be all pulses. Again what we will be aiming for is to take the best of Mexican cooking, Italian cooking, Lebanese etc. and find the dishes that just do not contain meat.
Further Information: Wayne Thomas has taken a couple of years out from full-time lecturing, to concentrate on his passion, food. He's been a vegetarian for 21 years and for the entire 21 years he's been disappointed by the food served in restaurants. Five years ago, he discussed the possibility of opening a restaurant with his friend Tony Thomas. Tony had been in the catering trade years before, and Wayne had spent much of his free time cooking. For four years it was nothing much more than talk. Last year they decided to make it a reality and set out on their journey.
