At the Old Gaol Museum visitors are invited to come and explore the history of Toodyay, one of the earliest inland settlements of Western Australia.
The Old Gaol Museum displays material that illustrates the history of the whole Toodyay region, as well as the history of the Old Gaol itself.
The cells of the gaol house individual displays include a memorial to war tragedy, domestic and childhood memories as well as the tale of the infamous bushranger, Moondyne Joe.
Visit 1 of only 5 remaining convict-built gaols in WA and step back into the era of Moondyne Joe, Western Australia's most famous bushranger.
Built in 1865 when the Resident Magistrate was enraged by Joe's daring escape from a previous lock-up and demanded a new, stronger gaol, it now provides an atmospheric reminder of Toodyay's convict past.
