The Zig Zag Scenic Drive is a one-way scenic drive, which leads downhill through the Gooseberry Hill National Park. It provides spectacular views of the city of Perth and coastal plains of the Indian Ocean.
This narrow bitumen road descends 100 metres in 3 kilometres and was once a railway line with each 'hairpin' being a set of points and a siding to shunt locomotives and trucks in a zig-zag manner up the scarp. The railway was an important part of the development of timber mills in the forests.
