Hugh Gorge Junction is located on Section 5 of the Larapinta Trail. After climbing over the rocky saddle you gradually descend until you reach the richly vegetated Hugh River.
The trail proceeds from this point downstream through the lower part of Hugh Gorge.
As the trail winds through Hugh Gorge the scenery is spectacular and varied with the orange oxide wall of the gorge contrasting sharply with the bleached and water worn boulders of the watercourse.
You may need to negotiate small, very cold stretches of water. The strongest botanical feature of Hugh Gorge is the impressive Black tea trees, with their deeply textured bark and pedestal roots.
