Serpentine Chalet Dam is the Trailhead for Sections 8 and 9 of the Larapinta Trail.

As you approach Serpentine Chalet Dam from Counts Point, you come to an 'island' of bushes and shady trees that have a much greater variety of vegetation compared to the nearby dolomite hills.

Take the walk upstream from the water tanks for about 150 metres to the concrete dam, this dam was the first of two dams that were built around 1960 to provide a water supply for the old Serpentine Chalet.
