Kings Canyon, within the Watarrka National Park, is located 323km south west of Alice Springs in the Uluru-Kata Tjuta region of the Northern Territory.
Kings Canyon is a breathtaking geological formation with towering vertical walls and pockets of 'lush' vegetation protected by sheltered gullies, set amidst the vast and harsh desert surrounding the park.
There are 3 fascinating walking tracks at the Canyon, each offering visitors an opportunity to escape the crowds and experience the beauty and solitude of the Australian bush. Signs highlight features of interest.
Encompassing the western end of the George Gill Range, the Watarrka National Park is home to a dazzling variety of unique native flora and fauna, including over 600 different plant species.
The word Watarrka refers to the umbrella bush that proliferates in this amazing landscape, and the area has been home to Luritja Aboriginal people for the last 20,000 years.
