Cooktown School of Art Society display and sell original art works from Cooktown and the surrounding area. The work covers a wide range of subjects, styles, mediums and techniques. The majority of works are by local artists.
The Cooktown School of Art Society is a society dedicated to the promotion of fine arts in Cooktown.
The society owns a gallery in Charlotte St, which houses work of local artists on permanent display. Landscapes capturing the beauty of the region in oil or watercolour are amongst a varied collection displayed.

- Hours: They try to stay open Monday to Saturday from 10.00AM to 4.00PM but as they are staffed by volunteers this can vary. They appreciate your patience if you visit and they happen to be closed. Entry is by gold coin donation.

- They hold their Annual Art Exhibition on the Queen's Birthday Weekend in June. This includes 12 art award categories and over $6,000.00 in prizes on the week leading up to the Cooktown Discovery Festival. They co-ordinate the Cooktown Art Festival - a biennial event to be held 14th - 16th August 2009.
