Located at the top of Hope Street, the lookout at Grassy Hill offer panoramic views of Cooktown.

In 1770 Captain James Cook named Grassy Hill as there was very little vegetation, trees now cover the hill, along with the occasional house. The lookout is home to the Cooktown lighthouse and sun dial.

Also located at the hill is Captain Cook's Monument, commemorating Captain Cook's landing and trips up to the hill. In addition, there is a large board, that details Cook's trip and his journals.
