No visit to the Northern Rivers is complete without a trip to the beautiful Rocky Creek Dam, the perfect spot to enjoy a relaxed BBQ with friends and family.
The dam holds the water supply for most of Lismore and surrounding areas. Walk across the wall/bridge which is 27 metres high, 187 metres above sea level and when full, holds 14000 megalitres of water.
The dam is not the only attraction. The 29 square kilometres of catchment area include sections of Nightcap National Park, Whian Whian State Forest and revegetated farmland. Three walks are available; a 10 minute easy walk, a dam and spilllway walk (a 15 minute reasonably easy walk to Pontoon Bridge, spillway & dam), and a 40 - 60 minute big scrub bush walk with the possibility of getting wet.
Late afternoon is a great time to visit. See iguanas sun baking and at dusk watch flocks of Cockatoos fly over head getting ready to roost.
