Tuan State Forest boundaries stretch from Tin Can Bay to Boonooroo along the Great Sandy Strait and is easily accessible from the town of Maryborough. The forest is home to some of the most extensive exotic pine plantations in Queensland.
Tuan is a destination for those who enjoy boating, fishing or canoeing. For the less adventurous in late winter to spring the forest is over flowing with wildflowers and is the home to many rare and wonderful fauna. The glossy black cockatoo can be seen here as well as dugong, turtles and the Pacific humpback dolphin. Mangroves provide habitat for more than 70 percent of the coasts fish species at different times.
There are several camping areas to choose from. The Log Dump on Kauri Creek is the only camping area with a toilet. Hedleys camping area is accessed via private property and Poona & Butha camping site is bush camping accessible by 4WD only.
