The Derbyshire National Park actively encourages visitors to leave their cars and use alternative, more environmentally friendly forms of transport such as public buses, horses, cycles or good old fashioned foot. Various park and ride schemes are in operation to reduce the amount of traffic within this area of outstanding natural beauty.

Journey Times & Directions

Derby, Nottingham, Chesterfield and surrounds have excellent road links to the rest of the UK. Motorway links London and the north Midlands are via the M1 and M6. Nottingham is served by the A1(m) north - south.

Chesterfield to London - A619 and A617 out of town to join the M1 which takes you to the North Circular road, 128 miles, which will take you 2 hours 30 mins approx.

Derby to London - A1 & M1, 130 miles approx which will take you 2 hours 25 mins drive.

Derby to Birmingham Airport - A601 and A516 out of town, onto the A38 at Derby City Hospital, A446 for Coventry and M42 to junction 6 then follow signs for the airport, 43 miles, 55 mins drive approx.

Derby to Manchester Airport - A601 and A516 out of town, onto the A38 Derby City Hospital, A516 and A50 for Uttoxeter/ Stoke-on-Trent, A500 and M6 to Junction 5 then follow signs for Manchester and Airport, 73 miles, 1 hour 30 mins drive approx.
