The Bury St Edmunds & North Suffolk Coast region is easily reached from the UK and many overseas destinations.
Regular flights can be obtained to one of East Anglia's international airports at Stansted and Norwich, from many UK and European destinations. To fly to the region from outside Europe, connections can be made from one of the many UK and European gateway airports. Alternatively both the major airports at Gatwick and Heathrow lie approximately 120 miles to the south of Bury St Edmunds.
East Anglia's sole port at Harwich, approximately 50 miles from Bury St Edmunds, offers regular sailings each week from Denmark, Germany and Sweden. A twice daily service also operates into the Dutch port at the Hook of Holland.
A variety of rail operators provide good rail links within the Bury St Edmunds & North Suffolk Coast region, with good connections to London and most UK towns and cities. Local buses and express coaches provide excellent coverage throughout East Anglia.
The A12 and A14 provide excellent road links in and around the Bury St Edmunds & North Suffolk Coast region, especially within the Suffolk coastal district. The A143 splits Norfolk and Suffolk, offering a direct route to the costal areas of the region such as Woodbridge. The A14 runs directly through the centre of Bury St Edmunds providing a south-easterly route towards Ipswich, passing through Stowmarket and Needham Market. While the A14 also travels west towards the A1, providing a route to both the north and south of England, it also travels south-west through Newmarket and connects with the M11 via the A11.
