One of the world's largest ferry ports is found at Dover in Kent, offering the shortest crossing - just 21 miles - between the UK and mainland Europe. Newhaven Harbour, located in East Sussex, also provides the region with alternatives for crossings to France.

Newhaven Harbour provides crossings to locations in France, including Dieppe. The port is located 80 miles from Dover, between Eastbourne and Brighton on the mouth of the River Ouse in East Sussex. The port is close to road and rail networks, providing effecting routes to London and throughout Britain.
