The Dumfries and Galloway area has excellent local train services and mainline railway links to London as well as the rest of the UK.

If you are travelling by train from England, the West Coast line to Glasgow travels close to Dumfries. If you are coming from within Scotland there are further local rail connections to Annan, Gretna Green, Kirkconnel, Lockerbie, Sanquhar and Stranraer. Dumfries Station is on the Glasgow to Carlisle via Kilmarnock rail route.
