Flights of all types - scheduled, charter & budget - fly to airports close to the main Essex towns. Stansted Airport in the north of the county provides many no-frills fights across Europe and the UK. The major international airports at Heathrow and Gatwick Airport are both within 70 miles of Chelmsford and provide 1,000's of long and short haul domestic and international flights.
To reach Essex by ferry, the east coast ports of Harwich and Felixstowe are within 50 miles of Chelmsford, while the popular south coast ports of Dover and Folkestone are both less than 100 miles from Chelmsford. All have regular ferries sailing to Holland, Belgium and France, making the area easy to get to and from mainland Europe.
The railway network across the Essex commuter area has good rail links from it's major towns and cities to London and the rest of the UK. Chelmsford, Billericay and Brentwood are all around 30 mins from Central London. By tube, central line underground trains travel as far north as Epping, Debden and Loughton.
Excellent roads make travel from London and the rest of the UK both quick and uncomplicated. Two motorways, the M25 London Circular and the M11, with their radial main road links, carry traffic into the towns and suburbs of Herts and Essex.
