To travel by ferry direct from Europe, the closest Scottish port is Rosyth, with ferries from Zeebrugge, Belgium. The leisurely overnight crossing takes over 16 hours; embark at Zeebrugge at 18:00 and arrive Rosyth at 10.30 the next morning. Rosyth is approx two hours, 212 miles drive from Aberdeen via the M90 motorway to Perth and then the A90 to Dundee and Aberdeen.
Alternatively, Newcastle, five hours drive away, in the North East of England has ferries to Belgium and Holland whilst the English south coast ports have the widest choice of ferries to Europe but are over ten hours drive away from Aberdeen.
Aberdeen also has regular island ferries to Orkney and Shetland plus the Faroes and Norway during the summer.
NorthLink Orkney & Shetland Ferries Ltd are based in Aberdeen and sail to the Northern Islands - Kirkwall in Orkney and Lerwick in Shetland. Aberdeen Ferry Port is on the River Dee and the ferry terminal on Jamieson's Quay is clearly signposted from both the A90 to Aberdeen & the A96 for Inverness.
