Robin Hood Airport Doncaster Sheffield Doncaster Finningley Airport, a former RAF station in South Yorkshire is to be renamed after Robin Hood. DCS is the proposed second base for Thomsonfly charter flights. The airline started flying from Coventry Airport in spring 2004 & plans to have flights from Doncaster by spring 2005.
Thomsonfly will have four aircraft at Robin Hood Airport near Doncaster. Proposed routes include a number of European airports with fares from £20 one way. Peel Holdings state "The existing runway at 2,741m, will allow it to serve popular destinations in the US, Caribbean, Far East as well as Europe."
Peel Holdings, who also operate Liverpool John Lennon Airport appear fond of heritage & culture related names for their airports. Coventry is usually more closely connected with the story of Robin Hood. According to The Guardian Newspaper: "Other big names considered for the former RAF Finningley site included Charles Darwin, the naturalist; Douglas Bader, the legless second world war fighter pilot; the aviator Amy Johnson; and the opera singer Lesley Garrett. The Pilgrim Fathers were also in the running, because of their strong local connections."
Travel to Robin Hood Doncaster Airport Robin Hood Doncaster Sheffield Airport is convenient for the national motorway network & the East Coast Main Line for train travel. Direct rail links from London to Doncaster take approximately 100 minutes.
Nearby major motorways include the M18, M1 London to Leeds, A1 (M) Edinburgh to London and the M62, Hull to Liverpool.
