Penrith Railway Station
Penrith station is in the Eden Valley, approximately one mile from the centre of Penrith, close to the northern Lakes, Ullswater, Derwent Water and Keswick. Penrith Castle and park are opposite the main station entrance.
On the west coast mainline, this is the main station within the Lake District with direct trains from London and Glasgow.

Oxenholme Railway Station
A second mainline station also on the west coast mainline, is Oxenholme, just two miles from Kendal. It has intercity trains and onward local trains into the south of the Lake District, Kendal and the Windermere Branch line. It is 10 minutes by taxi to Kendal.
