Built in Morgan, S.A. in 1907, it was the fourth paddle steamer to be called "Ruby", she transported passengers and cargo between Echuca, Mildura, Wentworth and Goolwa.
It is one of the only visible reminders of our Shire's reliance on, and role in the riverboat era. There are many "Friends of the Ruby" involved in working bees and fundraising who give their time and effort to re-float Ruby.
After 6 years and thousands of hours of volunteer labour, Ruby now has a brand new hull and returned to the water (in the dock pond) on Australia Day 2002, to the delight of hundreds of onlookers.
