Located in the heart of the Mitchell River National Park, the majestic Mitchell Falls is a spectacular series of 4 waterfalls. To see the falls visitors must trek 5km one way from the campground, making it a 10km return journey. The alternative is to walk one way, and take a helicopter flight back (bookings can be made at the campground). The walk to the falls is over some rough country and many high cliffs.
Along the way are the scenic delights of Little Mertens Falls (or Mertens Falls as it is now known), Big Mertens Falls (now Mertens Gorge), several rock pools, rock ledges, pools, rapids, shady spots, natural spas and Aboriginal rock art. The cave beneath Mertens Falls is worth exploring with dripping moisture, rock ferns and the thundering falls clanging above. The narrow and dramatic Mertens Gorge also has some breath taking scenery as does of course the four tiered Mitchell Falls.
Flights by plane are also available from Kununurra and Drysdale River Station Homestead.
