The Kimberley is the centre of one of the richest repositories of rock art in the world. The Wandjina pictures are generally found on the undersides of rock ledges, which provide shelter against moisture during the wet season. From ancient hand stencils to highly decorative Bradshaw (Gwion Gwion) figures and the more recent Wandjina art, these are anthropological wonders not to be missed.
To the Aboriginals, the Wandjina has a deep and meaningful relationship with their heritage and culture. Entry to these sites is on the condition that the greatest respect is shown to the art and its traditional owners.
