Getting There
Head north-east out of Perth's CBD through Highgate and Mount Lawley and within 5 minutes or so you'll be able to turn off into a terrific little suburb called Maylands which, on a map, looks like a tooth carved out of the meandering Swan River.
Location
Maylands' offers a high, commanding position so close to the city with such great views over the river and across to Belmont Park racecourse and the Burswood Casino complex. In fact, Maylands is so flash these days it even has its own yacht club - a friendly hideaway at the corner of Fourth Avenue and East Street. Club members sail a variety of classes, from single-handed Laser and Moth to two-handed Heron and Pacer. Sailing takes place on Sundays from October through to April and visitors can spend a pleasant afternoon watching the craft flitting about the river.
Local Area
Dome Cafe and the railway station where you can use the public transport to go to the city or venture further down the track to the port city of Fremantle only 10 minute walk. The 8th Avenue shopping precinct is just across the tracks and has some very interesting boutique and antique shops with plenty of eating options - including fish and chips, 2 x Thai restaurants, Turkish Kebabs and various different styled cafes. (approx 1km). This area also boasts banks, post office, IGA Supermarket, chemist, numerous styles of Asian grocers, fresh fruit and veg market and hair and beauty salons. Follow the popular Swan River trail from your doorstep. Visit Tranby House Tearooms just a 500m stroll or take a boat cruise up the Swan River to the numerous Swan Valley vineyards.
