Rockhampton council estimate that 680 000 per year use the Rockhampton Airport. This might have something to do with being named the 2007 Australian Major Airport of the Year. Perhaps it is just because it is the gateway to the southern section of the Great Barrier Reef.
Whatever the case, the Rockhampton Airport is now used by both domestic and international airlines using a mix of wide-bodied aircraft including the B747 to B777 and A340 types. Scheduled services to the airport are only domestic at the present moment.
Facilities include a cafe and newsagency.
