The St Kilda Pier (and up unto 2004 the St Kilda Kiosk) are undisputed Melbourne landmarks. The historical construction offers a wide range of recreational activities, panoramic views and is a popular destination for strolling, cycling, roller blading and fishing.
Originally constructed to assist early settlers unload timber, building materials and firewood into St Kilda, it was washed away in a vicious storm. It was soon rebuilt and various forms and additions to the pier have been constructed and added over the years, the most recent concrete addition was in the 1970s.
Tragically, the original Kiosk was devastated by fire on September 11, 2003. Original drawings were sourced and used in the construction of the new kiosk.
The pier's maintenance is the responsibility of Parks Victoria who report that 2.5 million visit St Kilda Pier each year.
