De Lacy is located in a heritage building at 29 Niagara Lane, Melbourne. The building is one of a row of four warehouses built as furniture stores for Henry Marks in 1887 by George De Lacy Evans.

Jan Willingham and her brother Jim Irwin established the restaurant in 1985. For 10 years previously they had owned and operated successful restaurants in Toorak and South Yarra.

Jan and Jim continue their interest in the food, wine, service, art and ambience at De Lacy, but the active day-to-day roles are now filled by Andrew and Sue Irwin - as chef and front of house manager, respectively.
