Take a trip through beautiful South Coast forest, and experience some of Australia's favourite spots. Head east off the highway into Pebbly Beach Forest Road about 17 km north of Batemans Bay and 2 km north of East Lynne. Drive through the Kioloa State Forest to Pebbly Beach, in the Murramarang National Park. This is a great little beach full of grazing Kangaroos, and if you're lucky you might see a giant lizard or two. From here wind back west along Mt Agony Road towards the highway. Part way along this route an unsealed road appears to the left. Take this back out to the coast and head south to Depot Beach. Whilst there do the Discovery Trail, a 45 minute walk that includes boardwalks and has informative signs about the history of the area. Once your done continue south to Durras North.
If you are going north towards Ulladulla, take a detour along the Old Princes Highway and have a picnic at one of the three picnic sites. There are a number of streams ideal for fishing along the road toward Ingold's Knob Lookout. Climb the very steep 400m hill (sign posted as 200m) to have a fantastic view over the coastal mountains.
Detour again on the first gravel road on the left, Berkshed Road. Head out to Shallow Crossing on the Clyde River and cross the causeway. The campsite here has canoes that are available to paddle about the beautiful river. Backhouse Road will take you a few kilometres north-west to Mogood Lookout. The lookout here has spectacular view of the forests and coastal hills from Mount Gulaga in the south to Pigeon House Mountain in the north.
Head back to the causeway and then north along River Road until you come to Sheep Track which leads back to the Old Princes Highway. Near here is Clyde River Farm where it is possible to pick blueberries. Pick or buy fresh peaches or nectarines.
