Booyong Nature Reserve and Booyong Flora Reserve are a remnant of the 'Big Scrub'. The flora reserve is home to a colony of fruit bats which can be clearly seen and heard from the entrance to the reserve. A short, circuit walk meanders through this slice of natural history. Look out for the giant River Gum in the nature reserve.
This section of the Big Scrub, once covered 75,000 hectares of Northern NSW and is one of the few remaining remnants of the rainforest in the area.
