The waters off the western coast of the Fleurieu are home to the Leafy Sea Dragon, which is a species of sea horse. The biennial Leafy Sea Dragon Festival is held in the Yankalilla district and celebrates this beautiful little sea creature.
The Festival features an artist's studio trail, various exhibitions, music, local food and wine, a street party, and markets. There are events in Myponga, Yankalilla, Normanville, Carrickalinga, Second Valley, Delamere, Rapid Bay, and Cape Jervis. Many are free of charge, and those that aren't, have tickets for sale at the door.
From Adelaide, travelling time is about 90 minutes, and makes for a perfect day out. But if you want to spend longer discovering these pristine parts, there is accommodation to suit every taste.
