Named after the Afghan cameleers who once traversed this route, The Ghan travels through the heart of the Australian continent, between Adelaide, Alice Springs, and Darwin. The 2 night trip showcases Australias spectacular landscapes from Adelaides green countryside to Alice Springs in the Red Centre.
Leave the train in Alice Springs or Katherine to tour nearby locations with Whistle Stop and Optional Tours. These tours, which last from a few hours to a few days, include an extraordinary range of opportunities for discovering the regions most captivating sites.

- History
- Construction of what is now known as the Ghan began in 1878, and now is a living legend. When The Ghan first departed Adelaide for Alice Springs, it was always intended that it would one day travel through to Darwin. More than 70 years on, in 2004, that dream has become reality.
