The 75 miles from Portrush to Belfast mainly runs along the Antrim costal route, which offers stunning coastal scenery, breathtaking waterfalls and panoramic landscapes.
The first town you will come across is Bushmills, home to the Old Bushmills Distillery, the first legal whiskey distillery in the world - a must see attraction.
When you leave Bushmills follow signs for the Giant's Causeway, which is an area of 40,000 interlocking basalt columns, the result of an ancient volcanic eruption. The tops of the columns make stepping stones that run from the cliff foot and disappear into the sea. Rejoin the A2 and head towards Ballycastle.
Ballycastle is a small coastal town with a lovely beach that offers views across to Rathlin Island (the most northerly inhabited island off the Irish coast). From Ballycastle, drive the east coast, which has some amazing ocean views, and you will reach the industrial town of Larne. From here take the route heading towards Ballymena and you will eventually reach the breathtaking Glens of Antrim.
The Glens comprise nine glens, or valleys, that radiate from the Antrim Plateau to the coast. Glenariff is known as the Queen of the Glens and is the largest and the most popular. The Glens are an area of outstanding natural beauty and are a superb spot to explore especially at the Glenariff Forest Park.
You will come across the village of Waterfoot, from here turn right on the A43 and pay a visit to the visitors centre. Then take the B14 which takes you to Cushendall and Glenballymin, then back onto the A2 Antrim Coastal drive, where you will come across Northern Irelands Capital - Belfast city.
