Sugarloaf Point Lighthouse (aka Seal Rocks Lighthouse) is significant it is the first major lighthouse by James Barnet. Built in 1875, it is 1 of 2 in Australia with an external staircase.
Sugarloaf Point Lighthouse is built on the point of land known as Sugarloaf Point, and commands impressive views of local beaches and Seal Rocks.
There is an old maritime saying that more wrecks occur near lighthouses than unlit parts of the coast, and that is probably true in this case as some 20 wrecks have occurred in this area since the lighthouse was established. The most tragic being the Catterthun 1895, when 55 lives were lost.
Though reserve is open to public, there are no tours. Below the lighthouse to the south you'll find great surf at Lighthouse Beach, which is great to watch dolphins and migrating humpback whales.
