Long Tunnel Mine

Visit the Long Tunnel Extended Gold Mine in Walhalla and venture on an exciting tour of original and authentic workings of a world famous historic gold mine.

Originally owned by the Hercules Gold Mining Company who commenced digging in 1865 and struck Cohen's Reef after digging for just over 2 years.

They turned south to follow the reef but had to sell out to the Long Tunnel Extended Gold Mining Company due to poor returns. The Long Tunnel Extended Gold Mining Company turned right and struck payable gold. They worked the mine for over 40 years and it was the richest paying gold mine for all of Australia for one year.
