Ruthin has its origins in the 13t Century and was a popular market-town Evidence of its long and illustrious history can be found in the beams and brickwork in buildings throughout the town Pendref Chapel is Ruthin’s oldest chapel, dating back to around 1827 Other impressive medieval buildings include Maen Huail, where, according to legend, Huail was beheaded for trying to scupper King Arthur’s quest for true love In addition to sites of historical interest, many of the pubs and inns in Ruthin have their own tales to tell, such as the 16th Century Myddleton Arms; the site of many cock-fights and having an unusual window arrangement known locally as ‘the eyes of Ruthin’ Other attractions near to Rutin include the striking ruins of Denbigh Castle and Valle Crucis Abbey, which dates back to the 13th Century This converted barn sits on top of a hill close to the owner’s home It has been restored and redecorated to a high standard throughout, incorporating features such as an open fireplace and exposed beams to retain much of the property’s original charm There are two bedrooms and guests are offered use of the owner’s hard-surfaced tennis-court With ample off-road parking, the cottage’s enviable location makes it the perfect base for family or friends .
