Staxton is a small village in North Yorkshire, immortalised by Sir Alan Ayckbourne in his play, The Revengers Comedies.
Situated on the rise from Lake Pickering, Staxton has been used by man since prehistoric times. Recent excavations at Heslerton have shown that an extensive network of farms, tracks and important buildings were built along the foot of the wolds dating from prehistoric right up to Roman times.
Evidence of the Romans and the Viking invaders who colonised this region can be found in the historic city of York.
