The village of Sheriff Hutton possesses a unique character alongside a long history It is situated on a long low east–west ridge between the Vale of York and the Howardian Hills Castle ruins dramatically dominate the village and there is fine countryside never far away Its use as a settlement can be dated back to around 6000BC In addition, finds in the area and crop marks indicate settlement in Roman times Sheriff Hutton has two castles; a Norman motte and bailey structure of which only the mounds remain and a second castle finished in 1398 Its ruins mark out Sheriff Hutton as a site of historical interest Today, the village is served by two pubs, both offering excellent food and there are a number of attractions nearby such as Pickering Castle, the North Yorkshire Moors and the towns of Scarborough and Whitby This property offers snug and welcoming accommodation for up to two people Built in stone, it is a deceptively spacious property that has been designed in an open-plan style and overlooks the owner’s mature garden The cottage has its own patio, offering ample opportunity for outdoor dining on a lazy summer’s evening, while oil-filled radiators make it a warm and cosy base in the chillier months .
