The Agrarian Kitchen, situated in a 19th century schoolhouse at Lachlan, is a sustainable farm-based cooking school set on a charming five acre property just 45 minutes from Hobart in Tasmanias Derwent Valley.

The Agrarian Kitchen is a working farm & incorporates an extensive vegetable garden, orchard, berry patch & herb garden, all grown using organic principles. Also in residence are Wessex saddleback pigs, Barnevelder chickens, two British Alpine goats & a flock of geese.

There are a range of cooking classes to choose from including the Agrarian experience, Mutton Dressed as Lamb, The Whole Hog, Pastry 101, Tortes & Gateaux, Tomato Gluttony, Winter Braising, Cooking with Fire, Secrets of Sourdough, Handmade Pasta, Preserving Summers Bounty, Desserts to Die For, Soups, & the Truffle Experience.

The Agrarian Kitchen grows & uses heirloom varieties of fruit, vegetables & rare breed animals in its cooking classes & also sources ingredients from local farmers, fishermen, gardeners & artisanal producers.

Cooking classes are led by Rodney Dunn, the former food editor of Australian Gourmet Traveller magazine and one-time apprentice to Australian Chef Tetsuya Wakuda, as well as a supporting cast of Tasmanian cooks and producers.
