Opened in 2008, the BICC explores the past, present and future of mining through it's Interpretive Centre.
Learn about the different methods of coal mining with intricate 3D models. Watch the entire open-cut mining process on a massive theatre screen, or take a simulated ride in a dragline, coal hauler, tug boat or ship loader. See things from a global perspective using the amazing interactive globe.
Get up close to a seven-metre high dump truck, be dwarfed standing in the big red dragline bucket or relax on the cafe deck for a bite to eat.
The Coal Centre also runs mine tours every weekday, dependent on weather, so visitors can see a real open-cut coal mine in action.
Including a 3D cinema, cafe, Japanese gardens and function rooms, the Centre is the social and cultural hub for the community of Blackwater and surrounding areas.
