Make Whangarei your base while you explore the local area and Northland. Only 2 hours drive from Auckland and an hour from Paihia in the Bay of Islands, you will find lots to keep you occupied! Deserted beaches; great harbours; fishing and diving, plus shopping, museums and art galleries. We know the places! We can meet you at either Auckland International Airport or the Whangarei Airport and deliver you to your chosen accommodation, or organise/recommend suitable places to stay at any level. Things to do
Whangarei has been called The City of 100 Beaches and The City of Trees and we have both in abundance. If it's water-based then we have some of the worlds' best fishing and diving. The Poor Knights Islands' were described by Jaques Cousteau as the best sub tropical dive spot in the world. These islands are off the Tutukaka Coast which has just been named by National Geographic Traveler magazine as 2nd of 100 iconic coastlines on the Planet! An hours drive from Whangarei, on the Tasman Sea is Dargaville and the 'wild West Coast'. Ripiro Beach is NZ's longest driveable beach, longer even than the famed 90 Mile Beach further north. Close by are the famed Kauri forests of Waipoua. Visit Tane Mahuta(Lord of the forest)...at 2500yrs old , one of the worlds' greatest trees. A natural wonder. Transport: We have a comfortable, air-conditioned "people mover" vehicle, licensed to carry up to 5 passengers, plus a luggage trailer for longer trips. Small groups are our specialty. We would like to get to know you and treat you to a true "kiwi" experience, one that you won't forget. Cycle Tours: We have recently added a 4 bicycle carrying capability and can offer day trips or overnight and multi day adventures on dedicated cycle trails. There is now a network of cycle trails available in Northland and the upper North Island mostly using old railway corridors. Mostly flat and gravelled "easy" pathways through picturesque countryside. 'Abbey Bed & Breakfast' Accommodation: We have recently added 'bed and breakfast-type' accommodation for up to 4 persons in two rooms: A 'Queen' bedroom with ensuite shower & toilet plus twin bedroom with private bathroom. Microwave/fridge/tea & coffee making facility. Your own access to expansive decks with great bush and rural views and a short stroll to the local Abbey Caves Reserve where you can see glow worms and amazing limestone outcrops.
