The Australian Aviation Heritage Centre has an impressive presentation of aircraft and displays depicting the Northern Territory's involvement in civil and military aviation.
There are Mirage and Sabre Jet fighters and an ex-Royal Australian Navy Wessex helicopter that helped in the clean up of Darwin after cyclone Tracy struck on Christmas Day in 1974. The ex US Army Huey Cobra with it's rocket pods and Gatling gun was the first purpose designed combat helicopter.
The centre was opened in 1990 in a purpose built facility constructed by the Northern Territory Government and managed by the Honorary members of the Society. Society members are active in the recovery and restoration of aircraft and other artefacts, with new aircraft and displays being continuously added to the Heritage Centre.
