Based in the outback town of Katherine, Top Didj & Art Gallery offers a genuine Aboriginal cultural experience. With the aid of a knowledgeable guide, you'll have a once in a life time experience.

Manual Pampkal, the exuberant resident tour guide, is happy to pass on his traditions from tribal life, language and share stories of Aboriginal contemporary life.

He will teach you the fine art of Rarrk Painting and give you the chance to paint your own masterpiece, while listening to a traditional welcoming song played on the didgeridoo.

More tour activities include Cultural Talks, Painting, Fire Lighting, Boomerang and Spear Throwing, and Basket Weaving. There are also animals on the premises which you can interact with and a gallery to look through.

Details

Tours: Cultural Talk- with Manuel Pamkal relating to growing up in the bush, cultural differences, tribal life and his own family tree. Painting- Tourists get a chance to sit down with Manuel Pamkal and paint a traditional Rarrk painting (Cross Hatch), or paint a traditional Dot painting with Adrianna Robinson from Yuendumu. Fire Lighting- Tourists have an opportunity to participate in the ancient craft of lighting a fire by rubbing two sticks together and be fascinated by the story describing the two sticks.
Tours: Boomerang Throwing- Visitors are then explained a brief history and are taught how to throw a remarkable object- the boomerang. Spear Throwing- Manuel explains the use of a Woomera and Spear to perfectly hit the target which is a fake kangaroo. Visitors then get the chance to participate. Basket weaving- Judy and Jessica will show you the art of basket weaving.
