Wangat Lodge and Cottages offers inexpensive accommodation on a beautiful wildlife refuge with river. Wangat has a real sense of seclusion from the outside world, located 20km north of Dungog.

The bush retreat has two self-contained cottages for families, Melia and Overflow, which sleep up to 5 and 7. Simple and affordable accommodation in peaceful surrounds. Priced from $110 per couple per night, 50% surcharge for single night bookings.

The property is in a beautiful forest setting with abundant wildlife, a pristine river for swimming, and great bushwalks to rainforest & waterfalls. Wangat Lodge is a dedicated Wildlife Refuge.

Facilities: The holiday cottages are self-contained with fully-equipped kitchen bedroom: Queen and single in Melia, singles and bunks in Overflow doonas, blankets and pillows heating: Overflow has a wood-burner, Melia has an oil heater bathroom with shower/toilet (plus bath in Overflow) outdoor BBQ with firewood private garden and outdoor seating The cottages are close by each other so larger groups can hire both cottages at discount rates. As we are a wildlife refuge no domestic pets are allowed.
Things to do: Take a tracks leading from the cottages to a lookout, swimming-holes in Chichester river or all-day expeditions into the wilderness of the Barrington Tops National Park. We have a bird-list for twitchers Mountain bikers can tour the hills or visit historic Chichester Dam There's a spa bath in the river and Bunyip's Bath, a secluded rainforest swimming hole. Or take a short night walk to hear the frog chorus or spotlight the nightlife. Star-gazing and cosy nights around the outdoor fire are favourite winter past-times. A short car trip away are more delights of the Barrington Tops at Williams River, Jerusalem Creek Falls and the Mountaineer. Our staff can provide local maps and direct you to these beautiful places. A local tennis court is available for hire. Or just relax about the cottage, browse the shops and cafe's in Dungog and enjoy a scenic drive.
Getting There: From Sydney take the F2 north to the end and proceed towards Taree. At Raymond Terrace take the Dungog exit and follow the signs to Dungog. At Dungog go down the main shopping Street, Dowling St, to the obelisk and turn left. Proceed out of town on the Chichester Dam Rd for about 19 km, following signs to the dam. At roadside marker 1938 a sign to the right shows the road to Wangat Lodge. After 800 m there are signs to either Melia or Overflow Cottage. We will have the cottage ready for you. Coming from Newcastle get over the Hexham bridge to Raymond Terrace and see above for further directions. From Other places ring us if the above does not help.
