The pearling industry, the main livelihood in the Bay area for 70 years until the 1930's, is once again in operation, adding a new dimension to tourism.
The pearl farm is just a 20 minute trip from Monkey Mia jetty in the 'Blue Lagoon Pearl' across the sparkling blue waters of Redcliff Bay an area abundant with marine life including dugongs, sharks, rays and turtles.
On transfer to the pontoon, Sea Lab I, enthusiastic and dedicated staff will give an entertaining, educational talk and demonstration of cultivating, seeding and harvesting of the Pinctada Albina and Pinctada Margaritifera (Black Lip Oyster), which produces magnificent coloured pearls.
The Blue Lagoon Pearl Farm in Redcliff Bay is the only one of its kind in Western Australia, open to tourists all year round. Just as the dolphins are a rarity, so too is the pearl farm, where you can buy Albina Pearl Shell souvenirs and exquisite pearl jewellery of all colours at farm prices. 'Blue Lagoon Pearl' departs at regular intervals every day from the Monkey Mia jetty.
