The John Oxley Library, formally opened in 1934, is the State's leading library for material documenting the history and development of Queensland. The John Oxley Library has collections including books, serials, pamphlets, posters and audiovisual resources.
All items are collected in the subject areas of Queensland history and cultural life, Queensland and Australian literature, Australian exploration and discovery, Queensland biography, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander myths and legends, culture and anthropology. The John Oxley Library aims to obtain the complete works of Queensland authors.
One copy of all items published in Queensland must be deposited with the State Library of Queensland as a legal deposit. Australian Joint Copying Project material is also collected.
