Cartref Park is about 25km northwest of Toodyay on Howard Road. The park was opened in 1986 as a place of tranquillity and regeneration to encourage native wildlife to return to its natural habitat.
There are 2.5ha of gardens, and they are not restricted to native plants. The Mediterranean garden is filled with citrus, roses and lavender and deciduous trees and shrubs that break into golden hues in autumn. Many rose varieties are featured in the David Austin roses walk and the growing collection of heritage blooms.
Water features are in four different areas within the gardens. Ten different breeds of purebred poultry can also be viewed.
Escorted tours are available or you may walk the gardens at your own pace. Bring a picnic lunch for there are many beautiful places to rest, with views of the garden and a variety birds to keep you company.
